Lev Truskinovsky (research director at ESPCI) will give a talk on “Scale-free intermittency in solid mechanics” at laboratoire Navier, on tuesday, november 20th at 11.30am. Abstract An important microscopic feature of plastic flow, fracture and structural phase transformations in solids is a complex avalanche-type dynamics of the carriers of inelastic deformation. In this talk we review recent attempts to explain the ubiquity of the observations which suggest power law structure of the (...)
