Short Resume

I graduated from Ecole des Ponts ParisTech in 1975. I received my PhD degree in 1978, and my Sc. D. in 1985, both from University Pierre et Marie Curie. I developed my carreer at Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées. I am currently heading Navier Research Unit at Université Paris-Est, which is a jointed research unit between Ecole des Ponts and Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées. Navier Research Unit gathers about fifty permanent scientists in the mechanics and physics of materials and structures.

Parallel to my research interests, I have been Assistant Professor at Ecole Polytechnique in Fluid Mechanics, at the University of Marne-la-Vallée in Solid Mechanics and Thermodynamics. I am currently Professor at Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, in charge of the Lafarge research and master program on “Materials science for sustainable construction”.

Research Interests

My main field of expertise is the physical mechanics of porous solids. For many years, I have worked in various fields of applied mechanics, such as limit yield design, wave propagation, dynamics of cracked Materials, and the dynamics of structures. My current field of research lies in the thermodynamics and constitutive models of materials subjected to coupled phenomena, at the intersection between the mechanics of porous solids and physical chemistry. I authored or co-authored five books and about one hundred papers in scientific journals. I am the member of the scientific committee of four journals.
