Architected Materials and Structures (AMS)

ASM team (Architected Materials and Structures) specializes in the field of mechanics of materials and structures. The team focuses on the development of advanced models and numerical tools for heterogeneous materials and multilayer structures under large strains and displacements. A variety of applications is covered in the field of civil engineering (plates, slabs, composite beams, retro-fitting, roads ...) and industry (rolling steel, elastomeric complex structures). ASM proposes innovative structures by compromising mechanical performance and environmental aspects. Wood, polymers, composites, steel, concrete, special "green" binders, building stones, biomaterials and other natural materials are investigated for the design of original assemblies and complex structures with reduced environmental impact. Under this scope, ASM develops also knowledge and sophisticated tools for the Life Cycle Analysis of structures. The ongoing research of the team falls into the following two main concerns of sustainable development:

  • Eco-oriented design of optimal complex architectures
  • Diagnosis, retro-fitting, reinforcement and rehabilitation.
