Introduction

Since 2010, Laboratoire Navier (UMR 8205) is a joint research unit between the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, IFSTTAR (French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks) and CNRS.

Created in 2007 by the late Olivier Coussy, the laboratory is the merger of three previous laboratories of the Cité Descartes in Marne la Vallée, the CERMES, the LAMI and the LMSGC, all of them joint units of the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech and IFSTTAR (formerly LCPC).

Currently, Navier gathers nearly 185 people (including 58 researchers, 27 technical and administrative staff, and about 90 PhD students and 10 postdocs) that work in the fields of mechanics and physics of materials, structures and geo-materials.
