Curriculum Vitae - Publications - Conferences


I am a IFSTTAR researcher at the Laboratoire NAVIER working at the Physics of Porous Media group. My project here involves the development of magnetic resonance methodology for the study of contaminant transport in natural soils and building materials.

My research interest comes mainly from my MSc. and Ph. D. periods at University College London. My research there involved the application of solid-state NMR to understand collagen-water interaction. I also used liquid-state NMR to obtain the conformation of amino acids and small peptides in solution. This was done in conjunction with molecular dynamics (MD) and quantum mechanical calculations (QM), which provided complementary information to the experimental data. This showed me that computational techniques are highly useful but also that proper experimental validation is necessary.

My post-doctoral work at the University of Toronto gave me the opportunity to work on the development of a new NMR probe termed comprehensive multiphase (CMP)-NMR (this probe posses the ability to study all phases between the liquid to solid states inclusive) in close collaboration with Environment Canada and Bruker BioSpin. Specifically, the application of CMP-NMR to study contaminant-soil interactions has shown the importance of this new hardware to investigate multiphase heterogeneous systems. We believe that CMP-NMR is not only useful for environmental research but that it is applicable to study any multiphase issue including cement formation and heterogeneous catalysis. Part of my collaboration with Bruker BioSpin at their Northeast headquarters in the U.S. showed me that hardware development is highly necessary when faced with inaccessible issues to current equipment. During my time as a post-doc I was also able to collaborate with other international researches applying NMR spectroscopy to solve environmental questions. In addition, I had the freedom to develop my own research, which augmented my already strong interest on finding solution to unknown issues.
